Christina's Reflections

Throughout this book, Christina has used her own experience as a Malaysian-born Chinese woman who migrated to Australia. Her understanding of culture, family, work and leadership has been shaped by that particular journey, as well as by the people and communities she has have encountered along the way.

There is, of course, no single Asian experience. Asian Australians may be first-generation migrants, like me, or their families may have lived in Australia for generations. They come from many different countries, cultures, traditions and family histories, and their experiences may be very different from my own.

The stories and observations Christina shares in this book are therefore not intended to speak for everyone of Asian background.

They are offered as one perspective – her perspective – in the hope that they encourage greater curiosity about the many ways culture can shape how we experience work, leadership and belonging.
